Peter Winder was so livid after an argument that he trawled a bank database for the woman's phone numbers

A Santander fraud investigator who had a row with a customer trawled the bank databases for her phone number and made sinister calls to her home.

According to a court judgment, a couple named as Mr and Mrs Jones returned from a holiday and noticed what they believed had been fraudulent activity on their bank account.

Mrs Jones called Santander and was put through to fraud investigator Peter Winder, of Brookfield Avenue in Crosby.

Details of the conversation have not yet been described, but the argument that followed was described as heated.

Winder was later charged with using a public communications network to make a communication of a grossly offensive, indecent, abusive or menacing character.

He appealed the charging decision, claiming it had been made out of time,
